President Donald Trump has quickly found that there is very little the United States can do to force China to stop North Korea from testing intercontinental ballistic missiles. "Our foolish past leaders have allowed them to make hundreds of billions of dollars a year in trade, yet they do nothing for us with North Korea, just talk".
China, with which North Korea does the large majority of its trade, has repeatedly said it strictly follows United Nations resolutions on North Korea and has denounced unilateral USA sanctions as unhelpful.
"China will never decisively help us against North Korea", he said, adding that right now, the provocations from North Korea are keeping the USA occupied.
The United States had for months put pressure on China to rein in North Korea's increasingly sophisticated weapons program, but Trump's tweets have indicated he is exhausted of waiting for results. "Nor will Beijing accept Trump's allegation that it has done nothing". We will no longer allow this to continue. China could easily solve this problem!'
On Sunday US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley tweeted that she was "done talking" about North Korea. Not only a U.S. problem, ' she said.
It is unlikely that Trump's tweets are going to persuade the Chinese to act.
It was followed by the successful test of the missile defense system, with the launch of a medium-range missile over the Pacific that was "detected, tracked and intercepted" in Alaska. "We handle everything", Trump told reporters during a Cabinet meeting at the White House. South Korea and the U.S. are scheduled for more joint drills this month.
The piece also criticised the USA for sending a pair of B-1B bombers to fly over the Korean peninsula two days after North Korea's successful missile test on Friday.
Song declined to specify the nature of the mobilization, but the phrase usually refers to high-profile weapons systems, such as stealth bombers and aircraft carriers.
When asked what influence Trump had left to force China's hand and get it to change North Korea's behavior, Gorka's first instinct was to point to the president's large presence on social media. Most recently, he went on Fox and called North Korea "a lilliputian flea".
The signed Xinhua commentary restated China's efforts to pursue denuclearisation on the Korean peninsula, adding that Trump's "hard-hitting" approach could lead to the outbreak of war with "unthinkable consequences".
