The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia confirms that they have addressed several foreign countries for help in order to timely extinguish fire in Abastumani forest, Samtskhe-Javakheti. "Its scale is not similar to that in the Borjomi Gorge", the PM told reporters during his visit to Turkmenistan.
The helicopter was sent under the instructions of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev upon the request of the Georgian government.
The Ministry added that Russian Federation is not among these countries.
Over one thousand firefighters, emergency workers and volunteers continue efforts to contain forest fire in Adigeni Municipality, which started on August 29 near the town of Abastumani in southern Georgia and destroyed reportedly around 5-7 hectares of woodland.
"We are now ready to help the Georgian side and get involved in fire liquidation works", the ambassador stated.
Mghebrishvili said that a 4-km-long road was paved through the forest last night for equipment to damp down pockets of fire. "Artificial reservoirs were also arranged for aviation", the Minister added.
