It's really negative and in some ways I actually think it is pretty irresponsible ...
During a question-and-answer session at the summer conference of the National Governors Association in Rhode Island., Tesla CEO Elon Musk warned that regulation of artificial intelligence is needed because it's a 'fundamental risk to the existence of human civilisation'.
'And I think that people who are naysayers and kind of try to drum up these doomsday scenarios are - I don't understand it.
'Once there is awareness, people will be extremely afraid, as they should be.By the time we are reactive in AI regulation, it'll be too late, ' he added. In a reply to a user on Twitter regarding Zuckerberg's remarks, Musk wrote - "I've talked to Mark about this".
Zuckerberg however, doesn't agree with Musk's view. During a Facebook Live broadcast over the weekend, the CEO took questions from users about the future of technology. I think you can build things and the world gets better, and with AI especially, I'm really optimistic.
He goes on to predict that in the next five to ten years AI will deliver "so many improvements in the quality of our lives", and cites healthcare and self-driving cars as two major examples.
"But people who are arguing for slowing down the process of building AI, I just find that really questionable".
"One of the top causes of death for people is auto accidents and if you can eliminate that with AI that is going to be just a dramatic improvement in people's lives".
It's hard to say how deeply Musk or Zuckerberg are involved with AI projects on a day-to-day basis, but it's safe to assume that they both know what they're talking about.
Musk, who co-founded the artificial intelligence research group OpenAI, has gone on record to express his significant concerns over the rapid development of AI technology. While Musk is often referred to as the real-life "Ironman" a reference to the Marvel comic superhero, Zuckerberg has had a Hollywood movie made on him and how he founded Facebook called "The Social Network".
"First the machines will do a lot of jobs for us and not be super intelligent". That should be positive if we manage it well.
Turning to the topic of autonomous vehicles, an industry which Elon Musk is heavily involved in through the company Tesla, Zuckerberg then indicated that if a person is against AI, then they are against safety innovations.
