"I have the honor of serving as attorney general", Sessions said at a press conference.
Mr Trump told the New York Times on Wednesday he would never have appointed Mr Sessions if he had known he was going to recuse himself from leading a Russian Federation investigation.
He also said Mr Sessions had given "bad answers" at his confirmation hearing. He added that it was a 15 minutes conversation and they talked about Russia's ban on adopting children from the Russian Federation by the United States citizens which was the main topic of conversation in a meeting between his son Trump Jr. and Russian Lawyer at Trump Tower last summer. According to Trump, Muller had applied for the job of an Attorney General before it was given to Jeff Sessions.
However, Mr Sessions said on Thursday he would not resign but would continue running the justice department effectively. "I was proud to be here yesterday, I'm proud to be here today, I'll be proud to work here tomorrow", he said.
"Jeff Sessions takes the job, gets into the job, recuses himself, which frankly, I think is very unfair to the president", he continued.
Sessions said Thursday he will stay in office "as long as that is appropriate'".
A federal special counsel has been appointed to take over the Russian Federation investigation, and several congressional committees are conducting probes.
Still, Trump insisted, he's not the focus of an investigation.
On Wednesday, New York Times has conducted a 50-minute interview with #trump and other officials in the Oval Office.
He said: "A special counsel should never have been appointed in this case".
"Sessions should have never recused himself and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else", the Times quoted Trump as saying.
The adviser said the remarks were not meant to signal that Trump plans to fire Sessions.
Sources told CNN and the Times that Sessions offered to resign earlier this year. He later revealed he had met Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.
With Donald Trump, loyalty will only get you so far. Mr. Sessions was the first senator to endorse Mr. Trump's candidacy and was rewarded with a key cabinet slot, but has been more distant from the president lately. Now, however, that position of power appears not quite as golden a prize.
And when this President warns special counsel Robert Mueller (or implicitly, anyone else) against looking into the Trump family's finances beyond Russian Federation, one can not help but conclude: We have a President who's running out of control.
