Hess is a doctor of osteopathic medicine, board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, according to her biography on the Women's Care of the Bluegrass website.
'My husband noticed something was going on because she had on a hospital gown, but I didn't notice that because I was on the delivery table.
Johnson said Hess had been "pretty amazing".
"I put on some boots over my flip flops and found another gown to cover myself up and did put my stuff to deliver on and delivered a baby".
Since the on-call doctor had gone home for the night, Doctor Hess says she got out of bed. It was Leah Halliday Johnson, a woman Hess had treated just days before, WKYT reported.
Soon after Halliday Johnson's baby girl was delivered, Hess' contractions started. Both moms and babies are reportedly doing well - and Hess is expected to take eight months for her maternity leave.
"She was just glad to be able to get to push and have the baby out and not have to wait any longer". But Hess said there was not any time to waste so she delivered that patient's baby.
But she had one last thing she had to do. "But this was literally 'til the last second".
Though the OBGYN had been waiting for her own induction and delivery, she leapt into action to help the other expecting mother. "I feel very lucky she was there and the type of person she is and step up to what she did".
