US Military Service Members Wounded In Insider Attack In Afghanistan

A solitary #Afghan commando was killed after wounding seven us soldiers while training in Afghanistan.

A spokesman for the U.S. military confirmed the attack, adding that early reports suggesting that Americans had been killed were incorrect. Two attackers were immediately killed by the Afghan forces while one attacker is absconding.

As many as five militants tried to blow themselves up at the high-security office of the police, shortly after which the Afghan Taliban claimed responsibility.

Camp Shaheen, where the 209th Corps is based, was also the site of a large Taliban attack in April that left hundreds of Afghan soldiers dead.

However, the Taliban have claimed credit for the shooting.

He says two of the attackers were shot by security forces and probably one more attacker is still resisting. The attackers were disguised in Afghan army uniforms. The others fought a battle with Afghan special forces that had responded to the attack. About sixty soldiers were killed on their bases, mostly at night, in the southern province of Kandahar alone during the same week at the end of May. This is the second insider attack in a week.

The insurgents are also targeting the global coalition supporting Afghan forces.

USA troops and other North Atlantic Treaty Organisation personnel have been forced to contend with so-called "Green-on-Blue" insider attacks throughout their occupation of Afghanistan, as Taliban supporters and Afghan patriots within the security forces have turned their guns on their European and US colleagues.

In the deadliest attack in Achin in eastern Nangarhar province, three USA soldiers were killed when an Afghan soldier emptied his automatic rifle in their direction.

The Pentagon is weighing the possibility of sending thousands more troops to the country to train Afghan forces to break what Lt. Gen. John Nicholson calls a stalemate there.

Still, there have been several reports that the Trump administration may send another 5,000 troops to Afghanistan.

There are about 8,400 United States troops in Afghanistan, with another 5,000 from North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies.

Afghanistan's ministry of defense said it's investigating this latest incident. They mainly serve as trainers and advisers.
