Pruitt, who advised Trump to leave the Paris Agreement, reiterated his claim that his discussions with Trump focused on the economic impact of the treaty on the US economy and not the president's views on global warming.
US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley bucked the trend, saying Trump does believe that human activity plays some part in climate change during an interview on CNN's "State of the Union" that aired on Sunday.
Responding to President Donald Trump's decision to pull the United States out of the Paris climate agreement, the European Union is considering taking economic measures that could include halting trade talks, forging closer ties with Russian Federation, and imposing heavy carbon taxes on USA exports.
"We deem the momentum generated in Paris in December 2015 irreversible and we firmly believe that the Paris Agreement can not be renegotiated since it is a vital instrument for our planet, societies and economies", the leaders of the three countries said in a rare joint statement. "Maybe, just maybe, we can now motivate ourselves to do something out of our loathing of this one".
Announcing his decision to withdraw from the Paris deal, Trump had alleged that India and China have been left accountable in the agreement.
What does it mean for the deal itself and for climate change and the environment? The accord requires the signatories to keep global average temperature to "well below" two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and to aim to restrict temperature rise beyond 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels by 2100. "And perhaps most important, new coal plants in the USA aren't economically feasible right now, due to lower costs of other forms of energy", Robertson said.
Russian Federation on 3 June reported that former EU Parliament President Martin Schulz has pledged to respond to Donald Trump's pullout by refusing to engage in transatlantic trade talks.
"The bottom line is that the Paris accord is very unfair at the highest level to the United States", Trump said.
"It did not serve their future economic interest either", he added. Within the USA, the announcement saw protests amidst questions about President Trump's views on climate change.

Haley's revelation comes at a time when the White House has refused to comment on Trump's views in the wake of the exit announcement. Fifty-five percent of Americans think the withdrawal will do more to hurt US leadership in the world. It's what we do. We are going to continue to be a leader in the environment. "The rest of the world wanted to tell us how to do it and we're saying we will do it, but we will do it under our terms".
