GLAAD exposed audio April 20 in which Mark Green told the Hotwash with CJ and Alex Program that transgender Americans were an "evil" that must be "crushed". He also supported a bill that would require transgender high school and college students to use school restrooms corresponding to the genders listed on their birth certificates. "I mean, we've tolerated immorality and we're not reflecting light".
Green was criticized by Muslim Advocates and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which consider his remarks derogatory toward the Islamic faith and its followers. In a video from the meeting, Green answers a question about a hypothetical armed insurrection in the USA carried out by people "like Muslims" with an affirmative: "Great question!"
And it quoted a Pentagon official saying the White House was in charge of vetting Green.
Trump's first pick for army secretary, the West Point graduate, millionaire businessman and sports team owner Vincent Viola, withdrew from consideration in February, reportedly due to an inability to get around defense department rules concerning his businesses. His choice to lead the U.S. Navy, Philip Bilden, also dropped out, citing difficulties meeting ethics requirements. No replacement has been named. Green's nomination and exceptional qualifications last week, noting that this would be a litmus test for Republicans - a choice between military readiness or political correctness: Time to Restore Courage, Character and Integrity to this Office.
On Friday, Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., said Mr.
Sen. Tammy Duckworth, a Democrat from IL, said in a statement that had Green been confirmed, it "would send the wrong message to courageous and selfless Americans who simply wish to serve their nation".
"There's a lot of controversy concerning his nomination", Sen.
The Human Rights Campaign said his withdrawal was a victory for the LGBTQ community and called Green's "shameful anti-LGBTQ record and rhetoric", a danger to LGBTQ service members and their families.
Over 40 civil rights groups called on the Senate Armed Services Committee to reject Green's nomination.
But on Friday, he said he did not want to become a distraction as a contested confirmation process awaited him in the Senate Armed Services Committee, where chairman John McCain, Arizona Republican, expressed reservations.
The person who's in need ... they look to the government for the answer, not God, and I think in that way government has done an injustice that's even bigger than just the creation of an entitlement welfare state. We've signed on to oppose him.
