Five-star forward Kevin Knox will announce his college choice on Saturday, his father, Kevin Knox Sr., told Scout.
"We were going to have a school-wide assembly and have him announce it in front of the entire student body, and there would be newspapers and TV stations", Dziagwa said, "but he doesn't want all that fan fare". Knox joins fellow five-star recruits in point guard Quade Green, small forward Jarred Vanderbilt, power forward P.J. Washington, and center Nick Edwards.
Knox was thought to be leaning towards North Carolina, Duke, Missouri or Florida State, but apparently John Calipari made a strong push to gain his services. Missouri was a late addition after the No. 1 recruit in the nation Michael Porter Jr. committed there. Both of Knox's parents were athletes at Florida State.
Krzyzewski had hoped Knox would step in for Duke like freshman star Jayson Tatum did.
The Wildcats lose several key pieces from the 2016-17 season heading into 2017-18 but were still expected to be the best team in the SEC and one of the better teams in the country. Many believed that Duke or North Carolina was the favorite to land the 6-foot-8 Knox-with the 247 Sports Crystal Ball giving Kentucky only a 4 percent of a chance-but the No. 9 overall prospect in the Rivals.com national Class of 2017 recruiting rankings is a big-time get for the Wildcats.
The previous season he averaged 30 points per game and 11 rebounds. "I've chose to do what's best for me, and I'm happy".
