Brady spent more than five decades behind bars after killing five children, along with accomplice Myra Hindley, who died in prison in 2002, between July 1963 and October 1965.
Hindley and Brady buried four of their victims on Saddleworth Moor, Greater Manchester.
In 1966, Brady was arrested for the killings of John Kilbride, 12, Lesley Ann Downey, 10, and Edward Evans, 17.
The body of his fifth victim, 12-year-old Keith Bennett, has never been found and the murderer consistently refused to tell police where he had buried the boy.
He was turned down at the mental health tribunal on the grounds that he was still insane and needed hospital care.
Solicitor John Ainley, who represented Mrs Johnson and works closely with his brother, Alan, said made a final appeal to the serial killer two months ago, but received no reply.
He went on to admit the murders of Pauline Reade, 16, and 12-year-old Keith Bennett.
Before his death, Brady was urged to "do the right thing" and reveal where he buried his last child victim before he died.
Hindley was convicted of murdering Downey and Evans and protecting her lover in the third case.
At a court hearing in February lawyers said he had been bedridden for the last couple of years and it was "fair to say" he was terminally ill, with emphysema among his ailments.
The boy's mother Winnie Johnson, who died in 2012, had repeatedly pleaded for Brady to do so.
"Following the death of Brady, our thoughts - as they have been for over 50 years - remain with the families of all of his victims".
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said it is not actively searching Saddleworth Moor but would never close Keith Bennett's case.
Speaking about the case of victim Lesley Ann Downey, former police officer Norman Brennan told of the "grief and torment" he had seen on the faces of her mother and father.
However Sumner said he "wanted to have assurance that when Mr Stewart-Brady is cremated his ashes will not be scattered on Saddleworth Moor".
The Glasgow-born killer was confirmed to have died by Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust.
Brady, together with his girlfriend Myra Hindley, abducted, tortured and murdered two girls and three boys in the 1960s in crimes whose pure evil shocked the world.
Hindley said Brady told her he sexually assaulted Keith before strangling him with a piece of string.
Terry Kilbride, 63, said: "It's a lot to take in".
"And I think that will be the opinion of most people". "As far as I am concerned, Ashworth Hospital can leave him out for the bin men".
He'd been a patient at Ashworth Hospital on Merseyside where he was reportedly receiving palliative care.
Hindley's brother-in-law David Smith was present when Brady hacked the homosexual teenager to death with an axe.
The inquest heard that Brady had died of obstructive pulmonary disease and cor pulmonale, a condition that causes the right side of the heart to fail, just after 6pm on Monday (15 May) after serving 51 years in prison.
