A police source said that after killing his mother with a kitchen knife, Siddhant tried to slit his wrist, but could not and fled. On Wednesday, around 1pm, mother and son got into an argument over the issue and Siddhant chose to kill himself, police said. When the veil was taken off for a few seconds for the magistrate to examine him, his face bore no expression. "It is necessary to interrogate him to find for what objective he has killed her", argued public prosecutor Milind Nerlikar. These will be investigated during his police custody. Police officers said Siddhant fled after the murder to Borivali railway station and bought a ticket for the first train leaving the the city, which was headed for Surat; from there he travelled to Jaipur. "Ganore did not want to take the transfer and was upset over it. He did not call home the rest of the day", said an officer who is part of the investigation.

Siddhant Ganore, 21, who was detained from a hotel in Jodhpur yesterday, was brought to the megapolis this morning, a senior police official said.

It was at 2 am when Dnyaneshwar opened the door and found his stabbed wife lying in their bedroom and the message scribbled beside her body. "When his father-in-law said that he hadn't, Ganore assumed the mother-son must have gone to watch a movie and would return in a couple of hours", said the officer. Ganore then called up the police control room and Vakola and Khar police stations. Deepali was taken to the Cooper Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

The post-mortem report showed that Dipali sustained 12 stab wounds: five on the neck, three on the chest and four on the hands.

The police is now examining the building's CCTV footage to gather more details about Siddhant.

After his arrest on Thursday by the Jodhpur police, he had told them that he had been frustrated as she was repeatedly asking him to get the marksheet, or insisting on accompanying him to the college to enquire about his marks, which lead him to kill her. "He has told the police that there were also frequent quarrels between his mother and father which he did not like, and he had been angry with his mother for sometime". When the police realised he was on his way to Jodhpur, they contacted the local police. According to the police, Siddhant had dropped out of an engineering course and he had also failed his first year BSc exam.
