Israel Threatens to Evict UN from its East Jerusalem Headquarters

Most European countries abstained, while Greece, the UK, Italy and Lithuania voted against.

While hailing those who voted in favor of the resolution, the PA expressed "disappointment" in the "small minority that succumbed to the cynical campaign of political manipulation against Palestine's resolution".

He said the deducted amount will be transferred to Israel's Foreign Ministry and will be used to develop relations "with countries that want to be close to Israel".

Netanyahu's announcement, according to Haaretz newspaper, came during a cabinet meeting following UNESCO passing the resolution, and reportedly had "softer language" regarding 'Jewish connections to historic sites in Jerusalem'.

The agreement, which was promoted by Germany, called for Arab states to agree to the softer wording in exchange for the European countries' commitment to support the resolution or abstain from voting.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon said that the Swedish ambassador was received by Rodica Radian-Gordon, the ministry's deputy director general for Western Europe, and Alon Bar, its deputy director of worldwide organizations.

An Israeli official said Wednesday's cut was the third time in recent months Israel reduced its United Nations budget, putting the 2017 payments at $3.7 instead of the original $11 million.
