McGrady was an All-Star for each of his four seasons with the Magic, led the National Basketball Association in scoring twice (2002-03, 32.1 points per game and 2003-04, 28 points per game) and was named the NBA's Most Improved Player in 2000-01.
Tracy McGrady is returning to the Orlando Magic in an off-the-court role. McGrady will serve as a special assistant to CEO Alex Martins.
According to the team, McGrady will work with players and coaches, advise the front office and help in promotional activities for the G League's Lakeland Magic. But he'll also have a role with the parent club, working with Orlando's players and coaches, and likely assisting in recruiting free agents to the team.
The organization announced Friday that McGrady will join their front office as a special assistant to the CEO, according to the National Basketball Association.
It appears as though Hall of Fame guard Tracy McGrady is heading back to Orlando after all. While with Orlando, he was a two-time All-NBA First Team selection (2001-02, 2002-03), a two-time All-NBA Second Team selection (2000-01, 2003-04), a four-time NBA All-Star (2001-04), led the NBA in scoring twice (2002-03, 32.1 ppg.; 2003-04, 28.0 ppg.) and was named the NBA's Most Improved Player in 2000-01.
The Orlando Magic officially announced the news today.
"Even though McGrady and the Magic parted ways on strained terms in 2004, a reunion between McGrady and the franchise has been rumored for years". After the 2003-04 season, McGrady was traded to Houston in a seven-player deal that included Juwan Howard and Tyronn Lue going to the Rockets, and the Magic receiving Steve Francis, Kelvin Cato and Cuttino Mobley in return.
"Tracy McGrady has rejoined the Orlando Magic", writes Mike Bianchi and Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel.
