When it comes to whether the president understands the issues facing everyday Americans, Trump does poorly as well. Almost 70 percent say Trump is not a "level-headed" leader, while more than 60 percent disapprove of his handling of race relations, foreign policy, and immigration.
Almost 70 percent of Americans say Mr. Trump isn't level-headed, and majorities say he's not honest or a strong leader. His approval rating is down from 42 percent in March and 35 percent in June. The poll found strong support among Republicans as 67 percent viewed the president's performance as favorable. Ninety-two percent of Democrats and 69 percent of independents said Trump understands their problems "not very or not at all". The latest Associated Press/NORC poll found that just 32 percent of Americans approved of Trump's handling of disaster relief for victims of recent hurricanes "in U.S. territories, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands", while 49 percent disapproved. Eighteen percent of Americans say they approve of the way Congress has been handling its job and 81 percent disapprove, including 51 percent who say they strongly disapprove. Online and telephone interviews using landlines and cell phones were conducted with 1,150 adults. It has a margin of error of 4.1 percent.
