Pakistan court indicts Nawaz Sharif, family in London flats case

The former prime minister’s daughter was likely referring to a reference to the notorious mafia by the Supreme Court in June this year while hearing a contempt case against the then ruling party member Senator Nehal Hashmi. Two sons who were mentioned in the Panama Papers were not indicted.

Nawaz Sharif will aboard the flight from London to Lahore on October 21 while he is due to appear before accountability court on October 26.

The Accountability Court has also ordered the witness Jahangir Akhtar to appear before the court on the same day. “Injustice and atrocities can not continue together”.

She also said that the party [PML-N] is united and those attempting to break the party are themselves breaking. She said the government is an institution which should be respected.”Each institution should do its job”.

The criminal indictment, brought by an anticorruption court that took up the case on orders from the Supreme Court, is the latest blow to a politician who served three terms as prime minister and helped define the Pakistani political mainstream.

Safdar, Sharif’s son-in-law, was arrested earlier this month at Islamabad’s main airport as he and Maryam Sharif were returning to Pakistan.

The NAB prosecution argued that Volume X of the JIT report had nothing to do with the indictment and urged the court to indict the accused today.

Court proceedings faced a 15 minute delay as Sharif family’s representative, Amjad Pervez pleaded that his clients should not be indicted until full documents regarding the case are provided to them. The court has reserved its decision on the application.

He had to step down as prime minister and president of the PML-N party after being disqualified by the Supreme Court.

Sharif was in London when he was indicted, visiting his wife, who is undergoing medical treatment, his aides said. He said she was in critical condition and had not recovered despite a third surgery.

Moreover Sharif said the court was conducting the trail in haste. “I hope I will get justice”, he told reporters in London in remarks broadcast by local Geo TV, adding that he would travel home to attend the next court hearing. They held a protest after the police did not allow them to enter the premises.

Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif said on Thursday that NAB was the most corrupt institute of the country and that it was being used for political reasons. “A judge has been appointed to especially monitor the case progress”, he said.
