A businesswoman and a Catholic, Gingrich is the third wife of Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker, Republican presidential candidate and Trump supporter.

Ambassador-Designate Gingrich is the former President and CEO of Gingrich Productions, a multimedia production and consulting company in Arlington, Virginia.

Senator Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat from California, voted yes, but Senator Dick Durbin, a Democrat from IL who is Catholic, voted against Ms. Gingrich’s nomination.

Gingrich’s nomination to the post at the Holy See in May caused some controversy because of her marriage to Gingrich, with whom she became involved when he was still married to his second wife.

Ms. Gingrich will be the 10th USA ambassador the Holy See and the third woman to hold the position, which President Ronald Reagan first filled in 1984.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee held Callista Gingrich’s confirmation hearing in mid-July.
