The right lane of a stretch of Highway 401 has reopened after a collision involving a transport truck early Wednesday morning.

All westbound lanes of Highway 401 are closed at Highway 6 South, near Guelph due to a crash involving a vehicle and tractor trailer early Wednesday morning.

Two people were taken to hospital.

“We’re still trying to determine why the auto was on the highway and why it may have been stopped in a live lane”, Schmidt said.

As the transport truck came to rest, its fuel tanks ruptured, destroying the truck’s cab and spilling fuel across the highway.

The truck driver was not hurt.

As a result, the left lanes of the westbound highway are expected to remain closed for most of the afternoon while this work is done, he said. That person is now in custody “for an unrelated investigation”, Schmidt said, although he was unable to give specifics on that case.
