Bhayandar: A 17-year-old student of Singapore International School collapsed and died in his classroom on Tuesday morning. While a case of accidental death has been registered at the Kashimira police station, the body has been sent to JJ Hospital for a post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death.

He is said to have felt dizzy during the lecture. The incident happened around 2 pm following which Shashank Rahul Agrawal (17), from Kashmira near Mumbai, was rushed to Bhakti Vedanta Hospital, Mira Road, where he was declared dead.

A report in Hindustan Times has shared the statement released by the SIS management and principal Kaisar Dopaishi. Suddenly around 9 am, during the second lecture, he fainted twice. “He met his father on Sunday, when he was also felicitated with the best student honour”, he said.

The teenager stayed in the school hostel near Thakur Mall, while his parents lived in Triveni Sangam Apartments at Peddar Road.

“He had been studying here for the last two years”. Sources said that the school has told students it would remain closed on Wednesday.

In the wake of the tragic incident, school authorities have made a decision to keep the institution shut today and have cancelled their Diwali celebrations.
