A bullet remains in Campos’ leg, but will be removed during an upcoming surgery. The shooter killed 58 people and the attack left almost 500 concertgoers wounded.

Police were forced to stop their attempts at getting into the room as Paddock unleashed a swath of 200 bullets into the hallway.

Dave Hickey, president of the International Union, Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America, said that Campos is still recovering from his gunshot wound in the hospital.

Campos heard the call over the radio and was dispatched the 32 floor, where smoke alarms were going off in one of the rooms.

Reports also stated that Campos was the one who directed the police to the 32nd floor so that they could locate the shooter.

He helped authorities locate the 32nd-floor room that Paddock was firing from, a spokesman for the union said.

“Anyone of us could have been in the position he was in”.

“He gave our officers the key guard for the room and then continued clearing rooms until he was ordered to go seek attention”. “Most importantly we are a home away from home and at the end of the day we are a team and we should all go home together”.

The Los Angeles Times reported Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said in a news conference Monday that Paddock shot Campos before gunning down Route 91 Harvest country music festival attendees.

“I was just doing my job“, Campos said to ABC News.

“It is incredible that the security guard didn’t sustain additional injury”, Lombardo told reporters.

The unarmed guard who distracted Stephen Paddock, the Las Vegas shooter who killed 58 people and wounded more than 500 on Sunday night, deserves to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the USA, his union leader tells Newsweek.

“What we have learned is Mr. Campos was encountered by the suspect prior to his shooting to the outside world”, Lombardo said.

The detail reflects a change in the shooting timeline police had earlier provided.
