The Sonos One is based on the Play:1 speaker, but with added voice assistant stuff. Here is what you need to know, including the United Kingdom price, details of Amazon Alexa support and what the updated Sonos app entails.

Sonos One: What is it?

Overall, the Sonos One is really positioned as a building block, since it allows you to use Alexa to control the rest of the Sonos family.

These two new products round out the complete set of Wireless Solutions SANUS now offers for Sonos PLAYBAR, PLAYBASE™, PLAY:1, PLAY:3, and other wireless speakers. To that effect, it comes with a six-mic array and an adaptive noise suppression algorithm that has been optimized for Alexa.

“Our goal was to find a way to safely, yet discreetly, attach the Sonos One to our mount without a screw insert”. UK, German and USA listeners will be able to use Amazon Alexa to control the speaker using their voice, with services such as Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, TuneIn Radio and SiriusXM supported. You will also be able to ask for weather forecasts, set timers, listen to the news or even check for traffic reports.

Sonos One: What about Google Assistant support?

Sonos is getting into the voice-activated home assistant market with a new smart speaker announced overnight. Although InvisiGrip™ is designed specifically for the Sonos One, the mount also supports existing Sonos models, the PLAY:1and PLAY:3, both with threaded inserts. In addition, Sonos unveiled plans to bring Apple Airplay 2 to their speakers in 2018, as well as the ability to directly control Sonos from within the Pandora and Tidal apps via an update within the next few months.

Sonos One: Cost and release date?

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to pair the Sonos One with an older Play One speaker that you may have laying around.

The Sonos app is being updated that makes it easier to use, thanks to what it claims is simpler navigation made possible by placing key buttons in a navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. And considering how great Sonos is with software updates, our hopes are high. Pre-orders for the Sonos One start on October 4th at and it will be available globally on the 24th.
