A total of eight people are injured, at least two of them critically, following a serious rollover on the Queen Elizabeth Way in Burlington.
Police say the single-vehicle crash occurred around 2:30 p.m.in the eastbound lanes near Guelph Line.
Eight people have been rushed to hospital, two with critical and one with serious injuries. The statuses of the other five passengers are unknown at this time.
He says a minivan appears to be the only vehicle involved in the crash.
Several people were “ejected” from the vehicle during the accident and came to rest on the road, itself, in “different locations” across the highway, Schmidt said.
All Toronto-bound lanes are closed at Brant Street while all Fort Erie-bound lanes are closed at Walkers Line.
Schmidt said the investigation will look at everything from driver error, to mechanical issues, to the use of seatbelts.
Initially, all lanes of the highway were closed in both directions.
Schmidt said the collision reconstruction team will be assisting with the investigation, which he said is expected to be “lengthy”.
