It's heading north at 9 mph from its location about 240 miles east-northeast of Cape Hatteras, N.C.
While Tropical Storm Jose isn't expected to cause major issues in CT, the storm will pass off the coast of New England and the effects will be felt in CT and our neighbors in Rhode Island and MA.
Tropical storm conditions are expected to begin late tonight or early Wednesday.
"Peak wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour are possible on the Cape and Islands with 40 to 50 miles per hour gusts across southeast MA and southern Rhode Island", the service said. The storm will continue "to slowly weaken" as it passes southeast of Long Island, the National Weather Service said. The wind is expected to cause scattered downed trees and wires and associated power outages, particularly on the Cape and Islands.
SURF: Swells generated by Jose are affecting Bermuda and much of the US east coast and will likely cause unsafe surf and rip current conditions during the next several days. The service cautioned that "severe beach erosion" is expected along the coasts of southeast MA and Rhode Island, with minor to moderate coastal flooding in some areas.
Wave heights off the coast could build to 15 feet (4.5 meters), while breaking waves along the coast are expected to reach 8 to 10 feet (2 to 3).
These rainfall totals could cause isolated flash flooding.
The Coast Guard is asking that paddle craft be removed from the water.
There are no plans at this time to activate the Regional Emergency Shelter System.
