Joffrey Lupul apologized Wednesday for a since-deleted Instagram caption in which he said the Maple Leafs "cheat", a comment apparently related to his failed physical with the National Hockey League team.
"The National Hockey League has that right to pursue the second opinion".
A day later, reports have surfaced that the 33-year-old forward will, in fact, undergo another, independent medical test. Lupul wrote on Instagram, "Haha failed physical?" They cheat, everyone lets them", and "I'm ready.
Earlier this week, Lupul made accusations against the Maple Leafs on Instagram.
In a statement posted on Twitter late Wednesday, the former seventh overall draft pick apologized for his comments, which he has since deleted from the snowboarding picture.
Lupul missed the last 31 games of the 2015-16 season after undergoing sports hernia surgery and hasn't played an National Hockey League game since.
Fans of the team have dubbed this "Robidas Island" after veteran defenceman Stephane Robidas sat out the entire 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons while under contract with the Maple Leafs.
Lupul hasn't played more than 70 games in a season since the 2008-09 campaign with the Philadelphia Flyers. The Leafs are now $4.579 million over the cap ceiling. Since then he has played in 280 games for Toronto, never playing in a full season.
Lupual has played in 701 career games in his National Hockey League career, scoring a total of 205 goals to go along with his 215 assists.
