Schumer can be heard telling the unseen colleague that the statement he and Pelosi put out regarding the meeting was "exactly accurate".
The remarks took place on the Senate floor and were captured by C-SPAN. We're working on a plan for DACA.
He had earlier this month ordered the shutting down of the programme, which prevents the deportation of undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, including close to 8,000 people of Indian descent. I just spoke to Paul Ryan, he is on board, everybody is onboard.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced the outlines of a deal after dining Wednesday night with Trump. That gave Republicans in Congress little incentive to actually expend political energy and capital heading into an election year to move on controversial and potentially divisive legislation.
Trump also used Twitter to lay out his positions Thursday morning.
But now, previously loyal Trump supporters are angry, believing the president they elected is not following through on his election promises of tough immigration policies, as well as border protection.
The president's aides have said in the past, he is OK leaving border wall funding out of this bill as long as he gets it passed in another bill.
"Ultimately we have to have a wall", Trump told reporters in Florida as he kicked off a visit to assess damage from Hurricane Irma. "If we don't have the wall, we're doing nothing".
"We're not looking at citizenship". Like I've said before, I look forward to working with my colleagues and the Administration, to create a permanent, legislative solution that allows people who have only known America as their home, to stay and continue contributing to our Nation's culture, economy and history.
These young immigrants, commonly referred to as Dreamers, were under the protection of DACA, an Obama-era measure.
Facing mutiny among Republicans, Trump insisted that nothing is final yet, his priorities remain intact, and GOP leaders are part of the talks. When asked if he supported amnesty, Trump responded on Thursday, "The word is DACA".
"I think a deal will be made before six months", Trump said Thursday.
That's the word Thursday from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of NY.
Finally back at the White House when reporters tried to pin him down, Trump clarified "DACA now and the wall very soon". "It's harder to resist a president of your own party". But the president says he needs "massive border security".
"The base will leave him - they can't support him anymore". "Apparently intentional" she tweeted because of common ground between Mr Trump and Mr Schumer on the issue of Chinese trade, and more deals to come. If you do not have the rule of law or respect for that law, the people writing the immigration laws are the people breaking them. These are immigrants living in the country illegally who were brought here as children to remain in the United States. However, Ryan has made it clear that he is not siding with the liberals.
Top Republicans weighed in Thursday to deny that any deal was reached.
Trump then added, "The wall will come later".
Late Wednesday, Democratic leaders Sen.
"No deal was made last night on DACA", Trump tweeted. The only thing all sides seem to agree on is that a deal will likely include some form of border security funding.
