Washington County, Va. Sheriff’s Office said Sheila Keen-Warren and her husband, Michael Warren, were co-owners of The Purple Cow in Kingsport.

The suspect is being held at the Southwest Regional Jail in Abingdon, Virginia, where she is awaiting extradition to Florida. Family members of the Wellington woman have been waiting 27 years in hopes of finding her killer. “They never go away”, officials said at the press conference on Tuesday.

“This is the strangest thing I’ve seen in all my 19 years in law enforcement”, Bob Ferrell, then a spokesman for the Palm Beach County sheriff’s office, told the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel newspaper the day after the murder. An arrest warrant was obtained for Sheila Warren.

An Abingdon, Virginia woman was arrested Tuesday after her indictment in connection to a 1990 murder in Florida where police said she was dressed as a clown when she shot and killed the victim.

Marlene sustained a gunshot wound to the face and was transported to Palm West Hospital where she died two days later.

Twenty-seven years after a clown carrying flowers and two balloons shot a woman to death at her front door, Florida authorities announced an arrest in one of the more freakish cold case investigations in a state known for freaky crimes. The clown was holding a flower arrangement and two balloons.

“She went to the door, and there was somebody wearing a clown suit and a clown mask”, Ferrell said.

Witnesses said they heard a gunshot before Marlene fell to the ground.

Officials later learned that Keen had married Marlene Warren’s former husband, Michael Warren, in 2002. The couple had moved to Tennessee, where they operated a restaurant together. The case was re-opened three years ago, prompting investigators to re-interview witnesses and conduct additional DNA testing.

In August this case was presented to a grand jury who issued a true bill for First Degree Murder.

According to the release, PBSO detectives were assisted by the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office, U.S. Marshal’s Task Force Western District of Virginia, detectives from the Washington County Virginia Sheriff’s Office, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations.

It wasn’t immediately known if Sheila Keen Warren has an attorney.
