The China deal brought the number of countries with access to the WWE Network up to 180.
According to Jay Li, the Vice President & General Manager of WWE Greater China, "Our WWE Superstars will deliver an action-packed night of family-friendly entertainment that is certain to create memories that will last a lifetime". Now, their next big step in the People's Republic is the launch of their subscription-based streaming service the WWE Network.
China's PPTV will be handling the facilitation of the WWE Network.
A major announcement was made by the WWE this Thursday, August 9, regarding the brand's presence in China.
WWE Network on PPTV will cost 30 yuan ($4.50) per month or 198 yuan per year.
The WWE's next pay-per-view event is SummerSlam, which will be shown on the WWE Network live in Mandarin on August 21.
The WWE will hold their first-ever live show in Shenzhen, China on September 17th.
Chinese subscribers of PPTV need only to download the platform's app into their mobile devices, set-top boxes or smart TVs to enjoy the best that WWE has to offer.
The pro wrestling company will enter the ring in China on August 18 through a revenue-sharing deal with homegrown video streaming site PPTV, which is controlled by retail giant Suning Commerce, the Wall Street Journal reports. Also, tryouts for Chinese athletes to join the WWE roster continue apace, firmly setting the brand's footprint in the Chinese mainland.
WWE Network on PPTV will include "NXT" and "205 Live", reality shows like "Total Divas", documentaries, and classic matches from WWE history.
WWE will launch the WWE Network in the world's most populous country for the first time after striking an exclusive deal with Suning Sports Media.
