The partnership is via the "1 KM Action" (一公里计划), ofo's collaboration with the UNDP to bring greater access to sustainable transport worldwide.

There are an estimated 4.6 million students in Malawi but among that, only 8% of them finish their secondary school education. Teen Vogue additionally reports that "The Clara Lionel Foundation and Ofo have previously joined forces to provide scholarship funding to students from China, Brazil, Barbados, Cuba, Haiti, Grenada, Guyana, and Jamaica planning to attend college in the United States", which shows how committed these two groups are to making the lives of others better.

The first batch of bikes has already been delivered and we can't wait to see the difference that it will make. We asked ofo for more details on numbers and maintenance but had not received a reply at time of publishing.

"We are delighted to work with Rihanna and the Clara Lionel Foundation on this innovative initiative as we are keen to help improve education accessibility for students living in poverty", ofo founder and CEO Dai Wei said in the press release.

CLF's Global Scholarships Program for college study in the U.S. which ofo is now jointly funding is available for applicants from Barbados, Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Guyana, Jamaica, the US-and now China too. The organization plans to help the existing Global Scholarship Programme and Rihanna has also pledged to add more scholarships to the program that she will personally fund herself. According to Teen Vogue, the internationally-known star teamed up with bike-sharing company, ofo, to donate a slew of bikes to girls in Malawi. Together with Clara Lionel Foundation Rihanna hopes to make a change to this by enabling easier access for girls to bikes.

The CLF supports and funds education, health and emergency response programs worldwide.

Rihanna is once again showing the world that she's thinking globally and charitably with her latest act of altruism. Perhaps even more significantly, recipients of the scholarships will also be given bicycles through Ofo.
