He will look to win all three NASCAR national series races at the track as he also competes in Friday night's Xfinity Series race.
Kyle Busch (125.134 mph), who won the Camping World Truck Series race at Bristol on Wednesday night (Aug. 16), was second quickest. That's exactly what we've got with the Food City 300. A Cup Series win would be much sweeter, but Junior would probably be pretty pleased if he managed an XFINITY win too.
The Las Vegas native wheeled his No. 18 NOS Energy Toyota Camry round the high banks of Bristol with an average speed of 127.157 miles per hour to take the top spot, with MENC cup regular Joey Logano starting in the second spot with an average speed of 125.806 miles per hour for the Friday night race at BMS.
The consensus is that it would take a while for the top groove to come in, but Justin Allgaier made it work right from the start.
Joey Logano (123.865 mph), a two-time NXS Bristol victor, trailed Busch in the session in second place.
After starting from the pole and winning the first two stages on the 0.533-mile oval, Busch started the final stage in 17th after the penalty dropped him to the back of the lead lap.
The best 10 consecutive lap average for final practice was led by Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch, Erik Jones, Ryan Blaney and Jimmie Johnson.
