West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday termed Congress leader Ahmed Patel's victory in the Rajya Sabha election from Gujarat as the triumph of democracy over autocracy.
"The central government is taking away the rights of the people in the country". In 2019 our slogan will be "BJP quit India". The voice of the Opposition is being stifled. "The BJP is trying to divide the country and our society". We will not allow it. We will work with all other opposition parties so that we can unitedly fight against the BJP. "We will not stop till the BJP is ousted from power", Mamata said after launching the campaign that will continue till September 5.
Mamata also targeted BJP for its alleged "witch hunt" against political opponents by using CBI, ED and Income tax department. The Trinamool Congress chief also slammed the CPM for being a "hypocrite" and alleged that the party has a "clandestine understanding with the BJP".
Banerjee said such a result achieved by the Congress in Gujarat was the biggest example of people's tolerance and strength of democracy in the country.
Ms Mamata Banerjee, who extended an invitation to the President to visit Kolkata on Thursday evening, will also attend the meeting of Opposition parties called by Mrs Gandhi on Friday to decide on the future course of action after the Parliament is over. They (BJP) lunch at Dalit families houses, but atrocities against Dalits and Adivasis have increased under their rule.
"As BJP has a majority in Parliament, they are trying to shut the mouths of all Opposition parties - which is risky for democracy". Darjeeling, Terai, Dooars are our pride. When the CPI (M) goes to the hills it says divide Bengal and when it comes down to the plains they stage walkouts (from discussions). Banerjee had told the assembly that Darjeeling has been a part of West Bengal and she would not allow its division.
