The schedule, which Politico said remains subject to change, showed the president returning to NY late Monday afternoon, staying at Trump Tower for two days, then heading to his Bedminster, New Jersey golf club to spend the remaining days of a “working vacation”.
Politico reviewed a schedule of Trump’s impending visit to his hometown, which shows that he’s planning to depart Bedminster on Sunday afternoon and head straight to Trump Tower, where he’ll spend three nights at his 66th floor, three-story penthouse. He was in town for only a few hours.
New York’s security forces will be on high-alert during the president’s stay, with the NYPD already preparing to provide the “appropriate level of security”.
The tower continues to be the scene of frequent protest marches and demonstrations, though most in recent months have been smaller than the many huge demonstrations that followed the inauguration.
De Blasio said, “The president of the United States needs to do more”.
“We are very confident we can handle any situation including if the president decides to go out to a restaurant or anything like that”, de Blasio said. “Hopefully, that will be the same this time”.
Fifty-eighth Street from Sixth Avenue to Madison Avenue and 55th Street from Fifth Avenue to Madison Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic starting midnight Sunday, August 13 and will remain closed for the duration of Trump’s visit, according to the NYPD.
The NYPD has encouraged people to use mass transit while the president’s in town.
Fifty-sixth Street from Sixth Avenue to Fifth Avenue will have “managed vehicular access” during the same time frame. The department says drivers should avoid Midtown or expect significant delays and heavy congestion.
