England's route to becoming European champions was made a little easier this afternoon when favourites Germany were eliminated from the Women's Euros following a shock quarter-final defeat by Denmark.
The Dutch took the lead through winger Lieke Martens who scored with a low free-kick in the 33rd minute before new Arsenal Ladies signing Vivianne Miedema, 21, added a second to seal the win and also score her 42nd global goal.
England had not beaten France in a competitive worldwide for 43 years but Jodie Taylor's goal on the hour mark, her fifth of the tournament, was enough to give her side a narrow victory.
Nadia Nadim found herself in acres of space to nod home at the far post, and not long after she should have been celebrating an assist, as Danish left winger Katrine Veje contrived to hit the crossbar from three metres out with the goal gaping.
She has since amassed 71 caps and scored 20 times for her country, her latest goal helping the side to a third European Championship semi-final, having scored from the spot in the nation's unsuccessful last-four shoot-out against Norway in 2013.
Kerschowski's early strike, misjudged by keeper Stina Lykke Petersen, had seemed likely to herald a dominant performance by Germany, but they failed to capitalise on a hesitant start by their opponents.
The match had to be rescheduled for 11:00 BST on Sunday after torrential rain fell on Saturday night in Rotterdam.
The Netherlands will go up against England in the semi-finals after they edged France 1-0 at De Adelaarshorst in Deventer.
