"I'm fine", Brzezinski said alongside her host and fiancé Joe Scarborough on "Morning Joe".
Ms. Brzezinski responded on Twitter by posting a photograph of a Cheerios box that has the phrase "made for little hands". According to Geist, they scuttled their plans to attend a Boston Red Sox game on Thursday night because they felt it would be "too much of a circus". "I think the American people elected somebody who is tough, who is smart and who is a fighter-and that's Donald Trump".
But President Trump has a very different account of what happened.
"Mr. Trump claims that we asked to join him at Mar-a-Lago three nights in a row".
The co-hosts ridiculed Trump for criticizing Brzezinski's appearance and disputed that she had a face lift.
The fact that he specifically called into question Brzezinski's intelligence and used her alleged bleeding face as a reason for being unworthy of his company means the story is quickly snowballing in the media.
"It's been fascinating, and frightening and really sad for our country", Brzezinski, 50, said. "I don't think it's a surprise to anyone that he fights fire with fire".
"Nothing makes a man feel better than making a fake cover of a magazine about himself, lying every day, and destroying the country", Brzezinski said.
Fallout continues after President Donald Trump sent a series of tweets ridiculing the looks and temperament of a female cable television host whose show he says he's stopped watching.
"'He was vicious when he turned from you to Mika, '" Scabrorough said, paraphrasing the congressman.
"Obviously I don't see that as an appropriate comment", said Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. "That is laughable", they wrote in the Washington Post, adding that Trump had actually invited them to join him.
"I don't think you can expect someone to be personally attacked day after day, minute by minute, and sit back", she said.
The response from Brzezinski and Scarborough came almost a day after Trump attacked them both, resulting in backlash from many in the political world including members of Trump's own party.
