Now, numerous Golden State Warriors stars, fresh from dethroning the Cavaliers earlier this week, are spending the weekend in Las Vegas.
Green wore a T-shirt that read, "Quickie", with the "Q" styled to mimic the logo on the Cavs' Quicken Loans Arena, which is referred to as The Q. Green told NBC Bay Area that the shirt reflected the Warriors' quick win over the Cavaliers. Durant pointed to the fact that the Warriors largely constructed their team with draft picks and journeymen, and for that reason should not be considered a super team.
But controversial policies and outlandish statements by President Donald Trump have upset many U.S. professional athletes, including players from the predominantly African American NBA. We're just trying to celebrate and enjoy everything. The Cavs were able to make history last year coming back from a 3-1 deficit, but this year, the Warriors were too strong.
Two titles in three years for Golden State.
It is a tradition in the United States that professional sports teams visit the White House as the Chicago Cubs did in January when they spent time with President Barack Obama after capturing their 2016 Major League Baseball title.
However, more than a few members of the team have been openly critical of Trump since he was elected in November.
Finals MVP Kevin Durant was on a different bus with his mom. The team's coach, Steve Kerr, slammed the president's travel ban executive order in January as a "horrible idea", and forward David West called Trump's election "disheartening". But 16-1 is a pretty good postseason record.
The Warriors defeated the Cavaliers 129-120 Monday to win their second National Basketball Association championship in three seasons.
As a longtime Warriors fan and a California native, I know how much the Warriors Community Foundation and the players do to support education and youth development especially in local public schools that need it most. If they had only won one, the experiment might have been considered a failure.
For LeBron James and the Cavs, it's another offseason focused on figuring out a way to get past the Finals loss and focus on next season. Ian Clark is also an impending restricted free agent but it's unclear how far the Warriors front office is willing to go into the luxury tax to keep everyone. One pregnant fan had painted the Warriors' logo on her stomach.
It will start at 10 a.m.at Broadway and 11th Street, wind through downtown streets and end with a procession to the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center on Lake Merritt. The Warriors made one of the great playoff runs of all time.
It was their second championship in three years. Not if you ask Oakland. Now they brace for the parade on Thursday.
