South Africa is one of Africa's biggest economies and one of our biggest trade partners but we choose to antagonise them.
AFP | Zambian officials barred South Africa's main opposition leader from entering the country Thursday, his party said, claiming he was blocked over his support for an imprisoned Zambian opposition leader. The detained opposition leader is alleged to have attempted to block Zambian President Edgar Lungu's motorcade, which was travelling on the same road.
The post Zambia bars S.Africa opposition leader at airport appeared first on The Independent Uganda:. "But we advised him that there were concerns over his statements and utterances, especially regarding the sanctity of our courts", said Mwamba, according to African News Agency.
"It was imperative that the due process of the law was respected without undue pressure or interference", he told journalists.
One traffic spat in western Zambia has grown into an worldwide incident with life-or-death implications - one that could taint Zambia's history of peaceful and democratic rule.
The DA leader said there were about 20 officials who stormed the aircraft‚ identified him and told him that he was denied entry into Zambia.
Africa day was meant to be a day that will mark the togetherness of Africans, but Mumsi Maimane, the DA leader was forcefully stopped from entering Zambia on the so-called Africa Day South Africa celebrated.
No reason was given for the deportation.
The treason case against Zambian opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema is politically motivated, Maimane said.
"Upon arrival Zambian Police boarded the aircraft, aggressively confronted Maimane, and have taken his private cell phone from his possession", DA related.
The statement said Maimane was en route there to show support to Hichilema who is being unduly persecuted by his government, and to show the DA's commitment to a human rights-based foreign policy.
Mr Maimane condemned the "trumped up" charges against Mr Hichilema and believed he was being unfairly prosecuted, the DA added.
We stand by Mr Hichilema in his trial today, and we once again call on the Zambian government to withdraw these unfounded charges against Mr Hichilema.
He also described people condemning the government for not allowing Mr Maimane in the country as agents of imperialist. "That is childish political propaganda our position as MMD is that the government was in order to stop an attempt by friends of the UPND and indeed agents of imperialist who are being sent here to try and create an impression that there is something wrong in Zambia", said Mr Nakacinda.
