Detectives have made "immense" progress in the investigation into the Manchester bombing and are confident they have arrested some "key players", Britain's top counter-terror officer has said.

Greater Manchester Police previously hailed the "significant" arrests made and the "very important" items seized in raids as they attempt to close the net on Abedi's suspected terror network. We're very happy we have got our hands around some of the key players that we're concerned about.

Since Tuesday a total of 10 people have been arrested, with eight remaining in custody.

Police have reviewed security at more than 1,300 events across the country, he said.

He also said that standby notices issued to NHS staff - which means health organisations have to be on alert in the run-up to the bank holiday in case of another attack - were precautionary.

A 16-year-old boy arrested in Withington on Thursday and a 34-year-old woman arrested In Blackley on Wednesday have been released without charge.

'Enjoy yourselves and be reassured by the greater policing presence you will see, ' he said.

Ms Rudd told BBC1's Question Time: "During this period of "critical", which we hope will only last for a few days - it could be longer, it will depend on the operation - we've pulled out additional support from the Army so we can go about our normal life".

Music fans were targeted at an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena in the worst terrorist attack on British soil since the July 7 bombing in London in 2005.

Providing an update on the probe, Mr Rowley said it is likely further arrests will follow.

A huge security operation is planned with 1,100 armed officers on hand to protect major events, including the FA Cup Final at Wembley and the Great Manchester Run.

"We've got to try to understand everything we can about the dead terrorist, his associates".

"While we do not usually comment on information-sharing arrangements with worldwide law enforcement organisations, we want to emphasise that, having received fresh assurances, we are now working closely with our key partners around the world including all those in the Five Eyes intelligence alliance", Mr Rowley said.

He said police now have a "much better understanding" with a "lot of the risk contained".

On Wednesday, UK police briefly stopped sharing information with U.S. intelligence services after a series of leaks to the American media, which threatened to compromise lines of the British investigation.

'We need to grow our confidence that we have got every component of the network and we have got as full an understanding as possible about how the device was constructed and whether there's any remaining risk.

Mr Rowley also urged people not to change their plans in the wake of the attack.

Yesterday evening officers were still carrying out searches at 12 locations, with activity expected to continue throughout the weekend. I think it is fair to say that there has been enormous progress with the investigation, but still an terrible lot of work to do.
