Soldiers have been deployed on the streets and police presence has increased since the terrorist attack at Manchester Arena that left 22 people dead.
British Transport Police announced the measure in a bid to "disrupt and deter criminal activity" on the rail network after the United Kingdom terror threat level rose to critical in the wake of the Manchester attack.

"We are getting a greater understanding of the preparation of the bomb", Britain's most senior counter-terrorism officer Mark Rowley said.
Ariana Grande has broken her silence and has announced that she will put on a benefit concert for those affected by last week's terror attack during her Manchester concert.
"Today we are releasing an image of Salman Abedi taken from CCTV on the night he committed the attack", they said in a statement. They are also hunting for a second explosive device assembled by Abedi that may now be with another member of the network.
Investigators have searched 17 properties, including Abedi's home in south Manchester and other houses in nearby districts.
The development came as a vast security operation gets under way to protect hundreds of Spring Bank Holiday events across Britain this weekend.
