Woman killed in fiery vehicle crash; Driver found at hospital

The driver in a fiery crash in Brooklyn, N.Y., early Friday morning hailed a cab and left the scene – leaving his female passenger burning to death inside the flame-engulfed vehicle, according to police. They say the driver fled as the auto burst into flames.

The FDNY responded to reports of a auto fire around 3:58 a.m. on the Westbound Gowanus Express between Hamilton Avenue and Prospect Expressway. Upon arrival, they found a burning sedan, a 2007 Infiniti G35, spun around and facing east on the westbound side. When firefighters put out the flames, they found a badly burned woman in the passenger seat.

No driver was found at the scene, police said. EMS on the scene pronounced the woman dead, said police.

The driver, 23-year-old Saeed Ahmed, was later located at Maimonides Medical Center, where he was being treated for burns to his neck, arms and legs. Charges against him are said to be pending.
