Nanded (Maharashtra): Counting of votes in Nanded where polling to elect the new 81-member Nanded Waghala City Municipal Corporation (NWCMC) were held on Wednesday will start at 10:00 am, election officer said. The counting of votes for the chosen ward, Ward Number 2, will be done twice, once through electronic voting machines (EVMs) and the next time through the VVPATs. In the last municipal election in Nanded, the Congress had secured 41 of the 81 seats with the Shiv Sena a distant second with 14 seats. Trends and results are expected to be available in few hours time. While Congress, BJP and Shiv Sena contested the poll, MNS chose to sit out. BJP on 7 and Congress on 12.
Samajwadi Party is contesting on 24 seats.
Congress is in power in Nanded since its foundation.
The Congress is leading on 12 while BJP is leading on 6 seats. While Chavan is confident of the Congress retaining the municipality, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has left no stone unturned to script a famous upset.The BJP ran a star-studded campaign, with senior Maharashtra ministers including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis coming out to campaign for the poll , As Reported By IE.
This time, 578 candidates are contesting the election to Nanded Municipal Corporation. 19 wards are represented by 04 members each, while 01 ward has 05 representatives.
The election results of Nanded Waghala Municipal Corporation is viewed as a litmus test for the former Maharashtra Chief Minister and current state Congress unit president Ashok Chavan, whose father late Shankarrao Chavan had nurtured the constituency over years.
The Congress, with 41 members, controls the outgoing civic body.
Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM contested the Nanded Waghala Municipal Corporation election in alliance with Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
The Shiv Sena is also leading on 1 seat now.
