The Panthers expect Devin Funchess (knee) to be “fine” for Thursday’s game against the Eagles.
The Panthers selected Funchess in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, but the former MI standout struggled to adapt to NFL defenses.
The 23-year-old Funchess has 14 catches for 123 yards and three touchdowns in the past two weeks and leads all Panthers’ wideouts with 24 receptions on the season. Fucnhess returned home to Detroit last week to brutalize the Lions for seven receptions and a touchdown. Allowing the third most fantasy points to enemy receivers, the Eagles are a mouthwatering matchup for Funchess, who has averaged nine targets since Greg Olsen’s injury. So far, he has taken advantage of the opportunity.
Players normally spend the first few days after a Sunday game letting their bodies recover, but when a team has a Thursday game, like Carolina does this week against Philadelphia, that isn’t possible.
