Four medical students killed in accident

Four students hailing from Kerala died when a truck rammed into their vehicle at Ramanagar on Friday morning.

The incident occurred near Kempanahalli/Sangabasavana Doddi village, Ramnagaram district.

The accident happened on Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway. The driver is absconding.

The deceased have been identified as Joed Jacob, Divya, Nikith and Jeena. The name of one more victim is yet to be known. Two of them were studying at Rajarajeshwari Medical College in Karnataka, the other two were from VIT University in Vellore. All of them were aged between 23-26 years, police said.

The overspeeding truck is believed to have collided with the vehicle after hitting a divider. Due to the impact of the accident the front portion of the vehicle was crushed and the four youngsters were killed on the spot. Ramanagara police is yet to determine if the youngsters were under the influence of alcohol.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Thammaiaha told TNM that Joyad’s parents live overseas and that his relatives who reside in Bengaluru have been informed. Efforts are being made to reach their families.
