The good news with Jose is after passing the Less Antilles, the storm is expected to go northwest into the open Atlantic Ocean.
"The northern Leeward Islands are at risk of contending with enhanced showers and tropical-storm-force conditions this weekend, which could hinder Irma recovery efforts".
The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Katia's maximum sustained winds are near 75 miles per hour with some strengthening forecast over the next two days.
Katia - once one of three hurricanes swirling south of the United States - has dissipated after it made landfall in Mexico, forecasters said early Saturday. Scientists started picking up background noise from the storm on their earthquake-detecting seismometers as Irma strengthened into a Category 5 storm on Tuesday.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Irma is now tied for the second strongest storm ever in the Atlantic Basin and continues to churn westward in the Atlantic at 15 miles per hour. This system formed in the western Gulf of Mexico from a lingering disturbance earlier this week.
Katia has "worrying characteristics" because it is very slow moving and could dump a lot of rain on areas that have been saturated in recent weeks, Luis Felipe Puente, head of Mexico's national emergency services, told domestic television on Wednesday.
Though it's unusual for three hurricanes to be active in the Atlantic basin at the same time, it's not without precedent. The last time this occurred was in 2010 with Hurricanes Igor, Julia and Karl. But meteorologists warn the storm's path could change.
