President Donald Trump on Thursday embraced a suggestion from the Senate's top Democrat to end congressional battles over the US debt ceiling, a day after he stunned fellow Republicans by striking a major budget deal with the opposition party.
Pelosi's role in influencing Trump's tweets came just hours after Trump infuriated Republican leaders by cutting a deal with Democrats over the debt ceiling. "We agreed to a three-month extension on debt ceiling, which they consider to be sacred, very important".
Asked about Trump's deal with the Democrats, Ryan said, "Yeah, I sort of noticed that".
Democrats want a bill addressing the Dreamers without other issues attached, but Pelosi did not rule out including border security measures that Trump and Ryan want. "I understand how he struggled with it, I understand how he's giving the possibility of a legislative thing", Bannon was quoted as saying.
Journalists incorrectly reported that Trump's assurance Dreamers would not be deported in the next six months was the result of a phone call initiated by Pelosi.
He offered reassurances on Thursday to young immigrants on Pelosi's behalf, tweeting that those covered by the federal program "have nothing to worry about". "Real protections will only come from your signing the DREAM Act ASAP", Pelosi tweeted.
"If you just dropped in from outer space, you wouldn't know what the last eight months have been like", said Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., recalling the friendly exchanges between Trump and Schumer during the meeting with NY and New Jersey lawmakers. "I know you did not mean to instill fear, but that is what is happening'".
In his first remarks since Trump cut the deal, Ryan said Thursday that president didn't want to have "some partisan fight in the middle of the response".
"I said, 'Well, what you always do, '" Pelosi replied, laughing as she recalled the exchange.
"But we often forget how vital these hardworking people and their contributions are to our economy and to tens of thousands of businesses who will be hurt if the administration's order stands", he said.
'For all of those (DACA) that are concerned about your status during the 6 month period, you have nothing to worry about - No action!' the president wrote on Twitter.
"Congresswoman Stefanik has advocated for the need to fix our broken immigration system in Congress and understands this is a sensitive issue", her spokesman Tom Flanagin said in a statement.
"Everyone was moaning and groaning and grunting, 'You've got to be kidding me, '" complained Rep. Dave Brat, R-Va., a member of the conservative Freedom Caucus, after voting against the deal.
For the moment, the agreement gives the Democrats plenty of clout.
"It does not include a wall", she said flatly.
"The president has been in a business where knowing your numbers has been essential", Pelosi said. "They want to see some dialogue".
