"Following medical advice, Sir Tom Jones has announced that he will unfortunately be postponing his United States tour, which was due to commence in Bethlehem, PA on Wednesday 6th September", a statement posted to his Twitter account read.
The 77-year-old apologised to fans on Twitter after giving short notice of the change in dates.
However, just days before the show, he has issued a statement via a representative explaining that the shows have been pushed back, to allow him to recuperate from the undisclosed illness.
Jones sent his "sincere apologies" to USA fans planning to attend the shows.
Instead, the tour is slated to occur in May and June next year.
'Tom sends his honest apologies to his fans and looks forward to seeing them all again in 2018. He has enjoyed a long career that began with "It's Not Unusual", "What's New Pussycat" and other hits in the mid-and late 1960s.
Jones received a knighthood from Britain's Queen Elizabeth II in 2006 for services to music.
Sir Tom's wife of 59 years, Linda, died of cancer last year.
