A gunfight is underway between militants and the state government forces in Barabugh area of district Shopian.
Sources said that firing from both ends of the gunfight has ended. Meanwhile, the operation is still going on. In the initial gun fight, one terrorist was killed, while the other two remained holed up.
"We told him through public address system to come out of the house".
The terrorist, identified as Adil, surrendered after he was trapped by security forces from all sides, reports said.
During the overnight gunbattle, a terrorist who has been identified as Adil, was caught. He was whisked away immediately to an undisclosed destination where he is being interrogated.
The gunfight started when according to police officials there was a tip-off about the presence of militants in the area.
It was for the first time that a militant has surrendered before security forces and laid down weapons during an encounter.
The identity of the slain militant was being ascertained, he added.
This month, on September 4, four jawans of the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) were wounded after terrorist hurled grenade at their patrol party in Anantnag district.
