A statement carried early Sunday by the state-run Saudi Press Agency said the missile targeted Khamis Mushait, a city in southwestern Saudi Arabia that is home to the King Khalid Air Base.
Coalition spokesperson colonel Turki al-Malki said the launch from within Yemeni territory was discovered at 10:03pm.
Saudi Arabia has been targeted by dozens of ballistic missiles and projectiles from Yemen since it began operations to restore the internationally recognised government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to power in 2015.
Occasional ballistic missile attacks, as well as more frequent short-range rocket fire over the southern border, have in the past been conducted after coalition airstrikes against the rebels in Yemen.
The Royal Saudi Arabian Air Force (RSAF) attacked a missile site in Yemen, hours after it intercepted a ballistic missile launched by the Houti rebels.
The interview came just days after the third anniversary of the Huthi takeover of Sanaa, which the rebels control in coordination with forces loyal to Yemen's ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Speaking in NY on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly, President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi also told the Saudi-owned al-Arabiya channel that a plan to hand over control of the country's main port to a neutral party remained blocked by the Houthis and their ally, former President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
The war, which escalated with the Saudi-led coalition intervention in 2015, has killed more than 10,000 people and wounded thousands more, according to United Nations figures.
