"I am calling on Congress to end the defense sequester once and for all", Trump told military personnel at Joint Base Andrews in the US state of Maryland who were celebrating the 70th anniversary of the US Air force.
"After seeing our capabilities, I am more confident than ever that our options are not only effective but overwhelming", Trump said.
"America and our allies will never be intimidated".
Speaking at Joint Base-Andrews in Camp Springs, Md., Trump said the Air Force "are the ones that own the sky" and have for almost a quarter-century.
He says the government in Pyongyang has once again shown its "utter contempt" for its neighbors and for the entire world community by launching another ballistic missile over Japan, a USA ally. "Now it is not what we would prefer to do", McMaster said.
The US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, echoed McMaster's strong rhetoric, even as she said Washington's preferred resolution to the crisis is through diplomacy and sanctions.
"We crave adventure and achievement, exploration and enlightenment", Trump said of Americans and their military.
Trump's remarks came after North Korea fired a ballistic missile over the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido earlier on Friday, the latest in a stream of missile tests that have looked to defy the worldwide community.
It had already stepped up sanctions against North Korea in response to a nuclear bomb test on September 3, imposing a ban on North Korea's textile exports and capping its imports of crude oil.
