With the move, Pinellas joins the Hernando and Pasco school systems, which earlier announced plans to reopen Monday.
Without power, officials are unable to let students return to classes, Seminole County Public Schools wrote in an email to parents. Preliminary inspections indicate no catastrophic damages to schools; however, there is some roof damage and water intrusion at several schools, according to a news release from the district. Custodians will still return to work on Tuesday for clean up.
No athletic team practices or other student functions will resume until Friday at the earliest.
The school board meeting and budget hearing originally scheduled for Tuesday (Sept. 12) have been rescheduled for next Tuesday (Sept. 19).
Orange County Public Schools will remain closed on Wednesday and Thursday this week as families who fled Hurricane Irma make their way back home. The district has not decided regarding Wednesday.
