Brister said police were called to Michael's On Simcoe Restaurant, 100 Simcoe St., near Adelaide Street West and University Avenue, for a shooting at 8:53 p.m. on Saturday.
According to the Toronto paramedics, the man who was shot was rushed to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition.
A man has been taken to hospital without vital signs after he was shot inside a downtown Toronto restaurant Saturday evening.
Media reports from guests at the restaurant identified it as Michael's on Simcoe, an upscale steakhouse that was the scene of another dramatic shooting nearly two years ago.
She said everyone got down underneath their tables and then the maître d' ordered everyone to stay down.
On Sept. 25, 2015, two masked men walked into the restaurant on a Sunday night and shot a man and a woman who were sitting down to eat. Officers said they received reports a male wearing a dark coloured top with a hood ran away from the scene and was last seen on Pearl Street.
Michael Dabic, the owner of Michael's on Simcoe, told CP24 he's shocked that another shooting occurred inside the restaurant.
She said the victim appeared to be man in his 50's.
He said his daughter and 150 other people were inside the restaurant at the time of the shooting.
