After upsetting the Patriots at Gillette Stadium 42-27, a result which seems to have incredibly convoluted effects on the Patriots' Super Bowl chances, the Chiefs enter their week two matchup against the Eagles with incredibly high expectations.
The Philadelphia Eagles will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in one of the National Football League games on Sunday, start time at 1:00 PM ET, at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri.
The Chiefs had a masterful performance in their season opener against the Patriots. Although a capable backup, the Chiefs will immediately feel the impact of Berry's absence against the Eagles when it comes to their defense of tight ends.
If the Chiefs can't keep Ertz in check, it will be much more hard for them to shut down a powerful Eagles offense.
Ron Parker, Free Safety - Now that Eric Berry is out of the mix, the Kansas City secondary will be led by Ron Parker. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill will also be another serious threat for the Eagles secondary this week after losing Ronald Darby for 4-6 weeks with an ankle injury.
The Chiefs pass rush against the Patriots looked very good, but they will have their hands full against the Eagles. Wentz's interception was a pick-six off a tipped ball at the line. This is a game between two teams that were impressive winners in Week 1 of the season.
The same can be said when you flip the teams. Kansas City racked up 537 yards of offense against the Patriots last week, and that should raise plenty of alarms for an Eagles defense that played well against Washington. And if the Eagles can not get a running game in order, the Chiefs should be capable of shutting that down, too, with a solid defensive line led by Allen Bailey, Bennie Logan and Chris Jones. While running back LeGarrette Blount thrived with the Patriots, the Eagles lack a great every-down running back, whereas the Chiefs certainly do not.
On the ground, Kareem Hunt rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown in 17 attempts while Charcandrick West added 21 yards and a touchdown in a carry.
What makes the Chiefs such a risky team?
All in all, the Chiefs have a right to be excited about their chances. Defensively, the Eagles are yielding 17.0 points and 264.0 total yards (200.0 in passing and 64.0 in rushing per game).
