Iranian President Hassan Rouhani arrives to attend an armed forces parade in Tehran, Iran, September 22, 2017.

The ballistic missile, which has a range of 2,000 km (1,200 miles), is capable of carrying multiple warheads, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, a senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Division, told reporters on Friday on the sidelines of the parade.

Friday's parade and missile display come days after Iran was called out in a speech by President Trump at the United Nations General Assembly, in which he called the nuclear deal with Iran "one of the worst and one-sided transactions" the USA has ever conducted.

Iran also displayed myriad of its home-made advanced missiles, including ballistic missiles, which are reported to have a range of 1,300 km-2,000 km.

"We will promote our defensive and military power as much as we deem necessary", Rouhani said.

We saw a few months back that Trump openly criticized Iran for not giving any details regarding its nuclear or mass weaponization program.

The parade also showcased various Iranian army units and Revolutionary Guard forces, as well as the police. In August, Donald Trump imposed a mandatory and severe penalty and an embargo on Iran due to its advancement in military weapons which are a direct threat to America.

"All countries in the world supported the nuclear deal in the United Nations General Assembly this year. except the United States and the Zionist regime (Israel)", Rouhani said.

In Syria, Iran is a close ally of President Bashar Assad.

Iran has repeatedly insisted that its military capabilities are exclusively aimed for defence purposes, on the contrary the United States claims that Iran's missile tests and rocket launches violate UN Resolution 2231, which was adopted during the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany.

Iranian media outlets are calling the new missile "long-range" - but by most standards, it would be considered a medium-range ballistic missile.
